OEM RFQ Never Asked EMS Provider for Six Digits
Electronics OEM sourcing teams score the EMS manufacturer's quoted program unit price, NRE, yield, and lead times. Duty is often left as TBD, or as a round percent copied from last year's should-cost on the same SKU, without verifying if the new shipment has the same heading and origin. That duty line is often larger than the labor gap contract teams spent weeks negotiating.
Ask the EMS manufacturer for the HTS heading they will print on the commercial invoice for the SKU you import. If the RFQ response only names HS 85, OEM sourcing has a chapter covering printed circuit boards, power supplies, industrial controls, and ICs, not a heading. A factory that already ships electronics into the U.S. has that number.
